Matsui Declines Debate Challenge, Vang Continues Showing Up

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 1, 2026

SACRAMENTO, CA – Congressmember Doris Matsui has rejected a Sacramento Bee invitation to publicly debate Councilmember Mai Vang before ballots drop in May. Vang continues to call on Matsui to commit to at least one public debate ahead of the early vote period.

In the meantime, Vang will join neighbors at a community forum on April 2, hosted by local neighborhood associations — one of dozens of public events she has held since launching her campaign. Matsui has held one in-person town hall, with pre-screened questions, since her last election.

"When you've taken hundreds of thousands in PAC money and held a seat for 20 years, apparently you don't have to answer to the people," said Vang. "Voters deserve to hear directly from the people asking for their vote — not just see TV ads. I’ll continue showing up."
