$4.5 million since the end of August alone, as Sacramento families struggle to cover rent and groceries

SACRAMENTO, CA—Rep. Doris Matsui has put another $1.5 million into her campaign, according to a filing with the Federal Election Commission, bringing the personal money she has spent on her reelection to $6.9 million. That includes $4 million in less than three weeks.

Matsui had never loaned money to her own reelection campaign in two decades in Congress. Since April, she has done it six times.

“Doris Matsui can lend her own campaign nearly $7 million while families in this district are choosing between rent and groceries,” said Councilmember Mai Vang. “I don’t have that luxury. Doris has no idea the choices families have to make in this economy and is deeply out of touch with those of us living paycheck to paycheck. Our region deserves a representative who understands the struggle and feels the urgency of this moment. I will fight to make things more affordable and be a louder voice to stop the wars driving up the cost of gas and groceries.”

"Thousands of state workers in this district are on strike right now, fighting for a contract that lets them afford to live where they work," said Anica Wells, SEIU Local 1000 President. "Doris Matsui has been silent, and now she's spending millions of her own money to save her job. Mai Vang has been out here with us. Our members won't forget who showed up."

Vang is the only candidate in the race who rejects corporate PAC money. Her campaign is supported by working families, nurses, teachers, and individual contributions.
