Nurses had asked Matsui to sit down with them on the anniversary of Medicare and hear the case for Medicare for All. Matsui’s staff canceled the meeting the night before. The nurses came downtown anyway.
"Today we celebrate the 61st anniversary of Medicare! The best way to honor Medicare is by improving, expanding, and protecting it, not by ignoring the people and nurses fighting for it,” said Shirley Toy, RN, member National Nurses United.
“We had a meeting scheduled with Congresswoman Doris Matsui's staff today, but it was canceled at the last minute yesterday evening. It's disappointing that they chose not to meet with their own constituents.
We heard Congresswoman Matsui was at a campaign event this morning. Meanwhile, Councilmember Mai Vang only learned about our rally this morning, yet she still made the time to stand with nurses and patients," Toy shared.
"Nurses have waited long enough for a champion for Medicare for All. Insurance companies continue to make billions and people are getting sicker while we wait. Working families in our district deserve a representative who will have their backs and put their priorities at the top of the agenda in Washington," said Councilmember Mai Vang, Democratic candidate for Congress in CA-7.
