Field Director

Location: Sacramento, CA (remote negotiable for July)

Compensation: $4,500 - $6,500/month (commensurate with experience)

Duration: July to December (with possibility of extension)

Preferred Start Date: Immediately

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for an experienced Field Director who shares our values. This is a people-powered, volunteer-driven grassroots campaign. Many of our staff and volunteers already have organizing experience; we're looking for someone who can build on that foundation with strategic thinking, strong management, and disciplined execution. The ideal candidate enjoys creating infrastructure and opportunities for volunteers to plug-in and in the process cultivate leadership within the coalition.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with the Campaign Manager to develop and execute a campaign field strategy and goals for the race.

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive field plan, including volunteer deployment, precinct strategy, field budget management, phone banking, canvassing, and voter contact goals.

  • Develop a robust volunteer recruitment program infrastructure. And Recruit, train, and manage field staff and volunteers.

  • Plan and execute field events, including launches, town halls, canvass kickoffs, volunteer training, and community events.

  • Serve as the campaign's lead on grassroots organizing and volunteer engagement while cultivating relationships with supporters, students, unions, elected officials, community stakeholders, etc. in partnership with the Campaign Manager

  • Build coalitions with partner organizations and expand the campaign's grassroots network, including managing endorsement processes and questionnaires in partnership with the Campaign Manager.

  • Manage overall field operations, tracking performance goals, and establish accountability systems to ensure campaign goals are met.

  • Duties as assigned.


Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • At least one full cycle of campaign finance experience, 

  • Familiarity with PDI (the California version of NPG Van), ActBlue, Numero, Quo, Google Drive, and spreadsheets. 

  • Exceptional organizational and communications skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, and discretion.

  • An ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and an ability to prioritize multiple assignments. 

  • Willingness to work nontraditional hours and weekends in the weeks leading up to the general. 

  • Experience working with women of color in leadership positions preferred

  • Screening interview - 20 min

  • Skills test - Submit a one-page outline describing how you would approach building a grassroots field program in a competitive congressional race.

  • Skills round with CM and 1-2 more team members - 45 mins

  • Final round with candidate - 45 mins

About the Campaign

Mai is the daughter of Hmong refugees, born and raised in Sacramento. Mai’s parents fled war in Laos and arrived in California to find a new life.

As the oldest of 16 children, she helped raise her siblings while working hard to build a career dedicated to helping her community thrive. Mai is a proud product of public schools and was the first in her family to attend college. As a young organizer, Mai returned home to serve the community that raised and supported her.

Mai Vang is running in California's 7th Congressional District. During the primary, the campaign raised nearly $1 million, finished first, and advanced to the general election against incumbent Doris Matsui.
