Mai Vang Receives California Federation of Labor Unions Endorsement

CFL co-endorses Vang and Matsui, this is the first time Labor Fed has endorsed a candidate running against Matsui

Sacramento, CA - Sacramento City Councilmember Mai Vang has earned the endorsement of the California Federation of Labor Unions, who made the decision to issue a dual endorsement of Councilmember Vang and Rep. Doris Matsui. This is the first time since Rep. Matsui was elected to Congress in 2004 that she has not received the sole endorsement of the CLF. Councilmember Vang has received an unprecedented amount of support from labor unions for a candidate challenging an incumbent member of Congress, including endorsements from United Auto Workers Region 6, California Nurses Association, and National Union of Healthcare Workers.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the California Federation of Labor Unions, which represents millions of working people all across the state of California,” said Vang. “Their endorsement is a sign that people are hungry for a new generation of leadership and are frustrated with the political status quo that has failed to protect us from the Trump administration. The labor movement is leading the fight to reclaim our democracy and our economy for working people in this country and I am so proud to have their support in this race.”

Mike Miller, UAW Region 6 Director: “Mai Vang has been a fierce ally for working people on the Sacramento City Council and we are proud to support her as she seeks to take that fight to Washington, D.C. We need more working class leaders like her in Congress if we want to have any hope of defeating this administration and ensuring that we can make this economy work for everyday people.”

Sal Rosselli, NUHW President Emeritus: “Mai has tapped into a hunger we hear everyday from our members for a new type of political leadership that is by and for working class Californians. We are currently experiencing so many political, social, and economic crises and we cannot expect to keep doing the same thing and electing the same politicians and get different results. We need a different type of representation in Washington, D.C. and we believe that should be Mai Vang.”
