Mai Vang Challenges Rep. Doris Matsui to Televised Debates for CA-7 Primary

Sacramento, CA - Sacramento City Councilmember Mai Vang is challenging incumbent Congresswoman Doris Matsui to participate in at least two televised or live-streamed debates prior to the beginning of the early vote period for the primary election to represent California’s 7th Congressional District.

“As more and more dark money floods our elections and distorts our political process, it is more important than ever that voters hear directly from the candidates who wish to represent them in a thoughtful exchange of ideas. Before voters in California’s 7th Congressional District begin to receive their ballots, they deserve to hear directly from myself and Rep. Matsui and how our visions for the direction of this country differ,” said Vang. “Last week, I signed on to participate in two debates. I am formally challenging Rep. Matsui to commit, by the end of March, to participate in at least two televised or live-streamed debates to occur before the beginning of the early vote period.”

Since announcing her campaign, Vang has held dozens of public events to hear directly from voters, whereas Rep. Matsui has only held one in-person town hall with pre-screened questions since being re-elected.
