Press Release - Matsui Drops $1.4 Million of Personal Wealth Into Her Campaign While Allied Super PAC Boosts Trump Republican Into November
Days after directing her IEs and crafting a roadmap for boosting a Trump Republican, Matsui-aligned Super PACs pours money to manipulate voters
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - May 22, 2026
SACRAMENTO, CA — Rep. Doris Matsui has dropped $1.4 million of her personal wealth into her own campaign, according to new Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings, as a new Super PAC boosts a MAGA Republican in the June primary at her campaign’s direction.
The $1.4 million, documented in FEC filings dated April 29, lands as Matsui's campaign continues to publicly promote a Trump-aligned Republican as "the strongest Republican in the June 2 primary" on the "Media" page of her own campaign website — complete with talking points on his right-wing ICE and immigration agenda packaged for Republican-leaning voters to receive ads and mail about.
"Congresswoman Matsui is using her own wealth to boost her campaign while asking her wealthiest donors to boost a Republican. As usual, working families are left behind as she manipulates voters and plays politics. Matsui has avoided public debates, skipped out on public forums, and refused to host any town halls all while hiding behind her consultants. Now, she is resorting to the type of politics that creates disdain and distrust for Democrats. Congress and Congressional Democrats have never been more unpopular– we cannot expect to beat Donald Trump when our very own representatives are encouraging their corporate donors to boost MAGA Republicans," said Nairka Treviño Müller, Vang’s campaign manager.
The Super PAC's six-figure spending turns the roadmap on Matsui's campaign website into reality. In a district that hasn't seen a serious primary contest in two decades, the convergence of $1.4 million from Matsui's personal fortune and nearly $100,000 from outside groups behind her preferred Republican is impossible to read as anything other than an incumbent willing to spend whatever it takes — from whatever source — to deny Sacramento voters a real choice in November.
